Tennessee Vols legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning is in a position to help UT football in a big way.
The Vols are one of several programs pursuing 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.
Gabriel Georges, 6-foot, 205 pounds from Chattanooga, TN (he’s originally from Quebec), is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 running back in the nation and the No. 15 overall player in 2027 recruiting. He’s also rated as the top player in the state of Tennessee.
The dynamic running back put on a show for Baylor School this week in a highly anticipated matchup against McCallie (Baylor won 38-35).
Peyton Manning has a unique connection to David Gabriel Georges
Peyton was in the house on Friday night to see Gabriel Georges’ strong performance against McCallie.
Vols baseball coach Tony Vitello was also at the game with Peyton.
Peyton wasn’t just randomly at a high school football game in Chattanooga on a Friday night. His son, Marshall, is an eighth grader at Baylor School.
I don’t know how involved Peyton is with the football program at Baylor — I assume he keeps a healthy distance for the most part. But there’s no doubt he’s around. And I’m sure he’s more than aware that Gabriel Georges is one of the top recruits in the nation. I’m also sure Peyton is well aware that Tennessee is heavily recruiting Gabriel Georges.
Peyton isn’t the type of guy who will aggressively push a recruit toward Tennessee. But it doesn’t hurt that one of the greatest football players of all time, who happened to be a Vol, is around Gabriel Georges from time to time. And if Gabriel Georges ever asks Peyton about Tennessee, well, I’m sure the Sheriff will point out all of the reasons why wearing orange and white would be a good idea for the five-star recruit.
I don’t think the presence of Peyton will be a major factor that swings this recruiting battle in Tennessee’s favor, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.
And who knows, if this battle is close at the end, maybe something Peyton says will be enough to push the Vols over the top.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are also heavily in the mix for Gabriel Georges.
