Former Tennessee Vols cornerback Colton Hood was selected by the New York Giants with the No. 37 overall pick (Round 2) in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Hood, who started his career at Auburn and also played at Colorado, spent one season at Tennessee. He was the first former Vol selected in this year’s draft.
The former Tennessee standout attended Day 1 of the draft, but he didn’t return to the green room after going unselected in the first round.
Instead, Hood was with friends and family when he got the call from the Giants. And it was, of course, an emotional moment for Hood.
The Georgia native broke down in tears while talking to Giants head coach John Harbaugh.
I don’t know how you can watch that and not be teary-eyed. What a moment for Hood as his hard work has paid off and he’s reached his lifelong goal of playing in the NFL.
John Harbaugh is excited about Colton Hood
Harbaugh told reporters Friday night that Hood is a like a “pit bull”.
“I don’t really care what the perception was [of the Giants’ cornerbacks] a year ago or two years ago,” said Harbaugh. “I’m looking at what I see, and I see a good room. But I want a great room. I want a dominant room. I want a bunch of pit bulls out there flying around, making plays on the football. And this Colton Hood gives us another guy in there to do that and compete and push everybody. So you put another pit bull in the room, and let’s see what he does. This is a corner with traits and ball skills. He’s going to light a fire in that room, and you better be ready to compete.”
Hood will have a chance to earn a starting job with the Giants this summer.
