When fall camp opened for Tennessee on Wednesday, it didn’t take long for fans to notice a different look for Vols head coach Josh Heupel.

For the last five years, Heupel has worn an orange Nike pullover during Tennessee’s practices.

When Heupel met with reporters after Tennessee’s first fall practice, he was wearing a black Adidas pullover.

Everyone knew that Heupel would be in a different pullover because of Tennessee’s new deal with Adidas, but going with black was a bit of a surprise.

Vols fans, however, shouldn’t expect the black pullover to stick around longterm.

VolQuest’s Austin Price said this week on WNML’s Josh and Swain that Heupel wore the black pullover because the program hasn’t found an orange one that works yet.

“Today he was in that black pullover,” said Price. “The first time he’s not had orange on (in practice) since he’s been here. It’s almost like Darth Vader Heupel. And the reality is [with] the orange pullover, it’s just they’ve not been able to find a coach’s pullover [that works for Heupel]. That’s why he was in black today.”

It was certainly an odd look for Heupel. I mean, he’s always in orange for practices. And on game days, he only wears orange or white (orange if the Vols are wearing white uniforms and white if they’re wearing orange uniforms).

I can’t blame Heupel, though, for taking his time. As we saw with the orange Nike pullover, when he finds one that he likes, he tends to stick with it.
