It's hard to believe, but 2024 will be Josh Heupel's fourth season as the head coach of the Tennessee Vols.

It seems like just yesterday that Tennessee embarked on a January coaching search after Jeremy Pruitt's dismissal.

Time flies when you're having fun and the Vols are certainly having fun under Heupel, who is 27-12 through his first three seasons on Rocky Top.

Late last week, CBS Sports graded each college football head coach that was hired ahead of the 2021 season. And they gave Heupel an "A" for the job he's done so far with the Volunteers.

From CBS Sports: When Tennessee tapped Heupel to take over the program in January 2021, he was arriving late in the cycle in the midst of an NCAA scandal with a roster that had just gone 3-7 in 2020. It was not crazy at the time to wonder if Heupel's role would ultimately be more of a caretaker for a program that was heading into a difficult rebuild. But, instead of a caretaker, Heupel has proven to be a four-star general. He's rebuilt Tennessee football in his image and delivered some all-time moments for Vols fans in just three years. With no losing seasons, an 11-win peak in 2022 and the recruiting operation absolutely roaring, the Vols are well-prepared to compete in the new-look SEC.

Plenty of fans and media members were skeptical when Heupel was hired at Tennessee in 2021, mostly because he wasn't a "big name", but he's proven over the last three seasons to be exactly the coach the Vols needed to drag the program out of the wilderness.
