The New Orleans Saints attempted to have a young replacement plan in place for legendary quarterback Drew Brees.

It wasn’t a veteran or someone already in the building. It was going to be one of the best quarterbacks we have ever seen in the NFL.

That QB was Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes let the cat out of the bag about the Saints on the “New Heights” podcast hosted by the Kelce brothers.

They were interested in the Texas Tech gunslinger. The Saints kept that pretty close to the vest, though.

That being said, Mahomes was aware of their interest. He was the most interested in playing Andy Reid and the Chiefs, though.

Accordingly, he gave the Chiefs a bit of inside information about interest from other teams that were picking before Kansas City.

The Saints were one of those teams, and he mentions them directly in this conversation.

The past is the past. The Saints can’t really blame Mahomes for what he did in the end, either.

Andy Reid is an offensive mastermind, and they created a great relationship before the draft. Multiple pieces on the Chiefs’ staff were plugged in and intrigued by Mahomes.

It certainly created a low blow for the Saints, though.

Getting Mahomes in the building while Drew Brees’ career winded down definitely would have set the franchise up for more long-term success. Instead, they now sit without the franchise QB on the roster most likely.

Oh, what could have been for the Saints after Brees.
