Pros of Josiah Trotter
- Thumper. Will come downhill and punish ball carriers.
- Key and diagnose. Can tell he comes from a family of linebackers. Reads his keys and explodes towards the ball.
- Block shedding. No issue taking on offensive lineman in space, or using evasive moves.
Cons of Josiah Trotter
- Coverage deficiencies. Shows zone understanding but labors when asked to move in space, struggles when aligned in man coverage.
Background
Josiah is the son of a Philadelphia Eagles legend, Jeremiah Trotter. He started his career with West Virginia, where he was injured for most of 2023 before bursting onto the scene in 2024. Transferred to Missouri in 2025 and was an instant impact addition as the team’s leading tackler.
Player Evaluation
Trotter is an old-school, hard-nosed linebacker who can come in and set the tone on day one. He plays with continuous tenacity, and his intelligence, play recognition, and key and diagnose skills mirror those of someone who comes from a football family. There may be some injury concerns, as well as questions regarding his ability to cover, but Trotter is a high-character player with long-term upside.
