The Buffalo Bills made it a quick priority to sign veteran wide receiver Josh Palmer in free agency. His abilities down the field are something that the Bills will be happy to have.

Joining former Bills Pro Bowler Eric Woods' podcast "Centered on Buffalo," Bills' general manager Brandon Beane explained exactly what made Palmer brings to the team.

"I think he's got sneaky speed on the card," Beane said. "He's around a 4.5 guy, but you see him stretch the field vertically, he sets guys up on double moves, and a couple times last year, he was open. He and his quarterback just weren't on the same page."

Beane added that there were times that Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was under pressure, but there were times that he was protected and was open for what Beane thought would be a couple touchdowns.

"So, we're excited to get him in the mold. He's a smart guy, and the way we like to do things, and I think Joe Brady does a great job, is just trying to make it a positionless offense. Whoever's in the huddle, you don't know if they're going to be in the slot, outside — with Curtis Samuel, we put him in the backfield. So that's another thing with Josh [Palmer]. He has the versatility to play in the slot or play outside."

The versatility is something that Palmer spoke about in his introductory press conference as well. He mentioned that he doesn't like to consider himself an X or a Z, he's just a receiver. He prides himself on the opportunity to line up anywhere.

Last year, he lined up all over the formation for the Chargers. Palmer had 422 snaps out wide (127 on the left, 295 on the right), and 189 snaps out of the slot. That ability to do a little bit of everything will blend in well with the plan that Joe Brady has for the offense.
