ESPN insider makes strong statement on Buffalo Bills’ internal feelings about WR Keon Coleman
Wide receiver Keon Coleman hasn’t lived up to expectations since getting selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula generated plenty of headlines in January with his comments about wide receiver Keon Coleman, the team’s second round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Pegula made it clear that Coleman wasn’t general manager Brandon Beane’s top choice in the second round.
“I’ll address the Keon situation,” said Pegula. “The coaching staff pushed to draft Keon. I’m not saying Brandon wouldn’t have drafted him, but he wasn’t his next choice. That was Brandon being a team player and taking the advice of his coaching staff who felt strongly about the player. He’s taken, for some reason, heat over it and not saying a word about it, but I’m here to tell you the true story.”
Despite those comments — and Beane has said some positive things about Coleman this offseason — there’s apparently still an “internal belief” in Coleman inside the Bills organization.
“There’s still internal belief in wideout Keon Coleman, who is coming into this season with much lower expectations than he did last year,” noted ESPN’s Ben Solak this week. “He’s in a battle with Joshua Palmer for the WR3 snaps behind Moore and Khalil Shakir, but he won’t fade out of the rotation entirely even if Palmer is the “starter” in three-receiver sets. To Coleman’s benefit, nobody on the bottom of the receiver depth chart is pushing for snaps ahead of him.”
Josh Palmer is having a good camp for the Bills, and it looks like he’s the leader for the WR3 job.
Coleman’s spot just behind Palmer on the depth chart, though, should be pretty safe — especially given his ability to be a quality red-zone threat.
The former Florida State standout needs to take a step forward this fall, and Buffalo believes he can.
That belief, however, almost certainly has an expiration date. Coleman needs to get it going quickly when the 2026 season gets underway, or that safe spot on the depth chart won’t stay safe for long.
