Cam Newton is inserting himself into the Carolina Panthers’ latest primetime game in the best way possible
Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will be back at Bank of America Stadium next week ahead of the team’s Sunday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions.
The Carolina Panthers’ Week 4 game against the Detroit Lions just got a lot more exciting. Cam Newton, the former Panthers legendary quarterback, announced that his 4thand1 podcast is coming to Charlotte for fans to attend ahead of kickoff.
Newton’s show will be live from the Roaring Riot Tailgate before the Panthers take on the Lions next Sunday. The show will be held at 520 Elliott Street in Charlotte, North Carolina on October 4 at 5:00 p.m. ET and will also be live on YouTube.
This is huge news for the Panthers and their fanbase. The last time Newton was at Bank of America Stadium was back in January ahead of Carolina’s playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams. The team reached out to Newton to not only show up but hit the Keep Pounding drum and fire up the crowd before that contest. Bank of America was roaring during that game because of Newton’s return. It marked his first game back at the stadium since his last appearance as a player in 2021.
That January moment was massive for Carolina. It mended the gap between Newton and his former team and recognized the greatness he brought to the franchise. The fans have always loved Newton, so seeing him back for that playoff game was special. And it will be just as special to see him back in Charlotte next week ahead of this massive game.
Sunday Night Football sets the stage for another memorable night for the Panthers next week
This time around, the stakes won’t be as big, but the spotlight will be even bigger. Sunday Night Football at Bank of America Stadium will feature Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions against Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers. It’s another former No. 1 overall pick battle between the two quarterbacks, this time in primetime.
It’s also the first of three primetime games for the Panthers this season. Carolina also has Week 8 at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football and a trip to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football in Week 12. That makes this Lions matchup the only home primetime game on the Panthers’ schedule this season.
Head coach Dave Canales said when the season schedule was announced that the Panthers are a fun team to watch now. Two games into the season, he looks right. Bryce Young is playing incredible football, and the energy inside Bank of America Stadium should reflect that next Sunday night. Newton’s presence at the tailgate will only add fuel to what should already be an electric atmosphere.
First things first: Week 3 in Cleveland
Before the Panthers can look ahead to the Lions, they have business to handle on the road. Carolina travels to Cleveland on Sunday to take on Deshaun Watson and the Browns at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Which version of Watson will show up? That’s a question worth watching closely. And perhaps more importantly for the Panthers, which version of their defense will show up in this game? Carolina will need some clarity on that side of the ball before stepping into the national spotlight against one of the top offenses in the league the following week.
The Panthers have a chance to build real momentum heading into October. A win in Cleveland followed by a primetime home game with Cam Newton back firing up the crowd again before kickoff is the kind of stretch that can kickstart the trajectory of a season.
