Panthers potential breakout pass rusher is spending his summer with elite company alongside two of his teammates
Carolina Panthers pass rusher Nic Scourton will be attending this year’s Sack Summit during his summer break and he’s not the only Panthers pass rusher expected to be in attendance.
The Carolina Panthers were thrilled with the early signs pass rusher Nic Scourton showed as a rookie last season totaling 5.0 sacks and 37 pressures while starting only eight of the 17 games he played.
Going into Year 2, Scourton is primed for a breakout as a full-time starter off the edge and has a new complement opposite him in Jaelan Phillips, the team’s high-priced free agent acquisition who can help take some attention away from Scourton.
“I think more opportunities for one-on-one pass rush, just having strong guys there and able guys on the field, I mean, as well as Derrick Brown, obviously, just opportunities for me to get one-on-one pass rush,” Scourton explained earlier this month.
Scourton has also taken the initiative to receive elite training this offseason to better prepare himself for the upcoming season, something that will continue next week during the summer break before training camp opens.
Carolina Panthers DEs Nic Scourton, Jaelan Phillips, Thomas Incoom to attend this year’s Sack Summit
Scourton is expected to attend this year’s Sack Summit hosted by Maxx Crosby, Von Miller, and Cam Jordan. He won’t be the lone Panthers pass rusher in attendance either. Scourton will also be joined by Phillips and Thomas Incoom in Las Vegas.
The three-day event will be held from July 9-11 and will also have a few former NFL greats in attendance offering some guidance such as Lawrence Taylor, Willie McGinest, and Gerald McCoy.
Sack Summit is an annual event that brings together the NFL’s top pass rushers in Las Vegas. Held over three days every summer, Sack Summit offers a unique chance for players from different teams to “link and learn” in a constructive environment while enjoying what the city has to offer. Participants exchange skills, knowledge, and techniques in addition to participating in on-field drills/workouts and film sessions with some of the best pass rushers in NFL history.

Nic Scourton has been putting in the work all offseason long
This event won’t be the first time Scourton got high-level pass rush training this offseason. Back in the spring, Scourton went down to Dallas to train with pass rush specialist BT Jordan at the sixth annual Pass Rush Retreat. Jordan is notably the trainer for star pass rusher Micah Parsons and other top pass rushers.
“I wanted to go and get better in my pass rush. So, just getting around guys who can help me with my feet, help me get a better line, help me get better hands,” Scourton explained.
The upcoming Sack Summit will offer a similar experience for Scourton to learn finer details of the position from some of the top players in the league. And it’ll be a big benefit to have Phillips and Incoom there as well with him.
“Nic’s taking that step,” Panthers head coach Dave Canales admitted earlier in the offseason. “He’s got a couple of other veterans in the room as well, so all those guys are just jelling, and I’m excited to see where this rush goes.”
