The Chicago Bears are investing their time in one intriguing player who many believe to be a sleeper prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft class.
The Bears are scheduled to meet with University of Virginia WR Dontayvion Wicks for his top 30 visit on Thursday, per Tom Pelissero.
Wicks, who most draft experts believe will hear his name called in the mid-rounds, has met with the Bears once before. Chicago also visited with the receiver at the combine.
Wicks was a standout in 2021 at Virginia. In his first season as a full-time starter, Wicks registered 57 receptions for a school record 1,203 yards and nine touchdowns.
However, Wick’s production dropped off in a major way in 2022. He totaled 30 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns. His struggles could be attributed to shaky quarterback play in a new system, though he did have uncharacteristic drop issues at times.
Standing at six-foot-one, Wicks brings an element of speed to his outstanding contested catch ability. His body control helps him track down deep balls, making him a true vertical threat.
Chicago addressed its concerns at wide receiver by trading for D.J. Moore earlier this offseason. That being said, a team can never have too many weapons in today’s NFL. Wicks would provide plenty of value if the Bears are in a position to continue bolstering its receivers room early in Day 3 of the draft.
