For the first time in franchise history, the Cincinnati Bengals have won a game outside of the United States of America.

Cincinnati emerged victorious for the first time in an international game, defeating the Atlanta Falcons, 34-17 in Madrid, Spain.

It was yet another week of offensive dominance from the Bengals. There was no sleepwalking from the unit, despite the six-hour leap in time change as they put up 24 points in the first 30 minutes. The defense held up their end of the bargain in the second half, settling down and suffocating Atlanta when it needed to.

Here are the winners and losers from the Bengals’ sixth win of the year.

Winners from Bengals’ 34-17 win over Falcons in NFL Week 9

Ja’Marr Chase

By the end of the first quarter, you knew Ja’Marr Chase was going to have himself a day. Chase got things started with a 47-yard long ball from Joe Burrow to end Cincy’s first drive. He was up to eight receptions for 142 yards by the end of the first half, the most by a Bengal in the first half since 1988, including phenomenal moments after the catch, and a sideline top-tapper for the ages. He finished with just 10 receptions and 155 yards on the day. All of Spain knows who he is now.

Joe Burrow

When Burrow is on, it looks like nothing else in the league. He had another ultra-efficient game with 271 yards and three touchdowns on 24/29 passing. He also snuck his way in for a score. Only two Bengals offensive touchdowns this season haven’t come from Burrow’s arm and legs. Clinical from an MVP frontrunner.

Chase Brown

Don’t look now, but Chase Brown is starting to get pretty good blocking in the second level. He entered Sunday with zero explosive runs, and finished with two! He had 57 yards on the ground on just nine carries, and is finally starting to hit his stride in this ever-evolving run game.

Dexter Lawrence II

He didn’t get a sack, but man, Dexter Lawrence II is terrifying when he wins quickly. Falcons quarterback Michael Penix had to run for safety a handful of times with Lawrence barreling down his face. He ended up with five pressures and a pass rush win rate of 17.4% according to Pro Football Focus’ initial charting.

Offensive line

Burrow and the entire offense was able to win all day long thanks to phenomenal blocking up front from the big guys. Right tackle Amarius Mims was perfect once again in pass protection, and guards Dylan Fairchild and Dalton Risner posted some of their best run blocking tape of the season. You’ll take this outing 17 times out of 17 in the season.

Barrett Carter

He nearly forced a turnover against Bijan Robinson early in the game with a forced fumble, but Barrett Carter did get his turnover in the fourth quarter to snuff out any chance at an Atlanta comeback. Yes, Robinson cooked him on a wheel route, but 99% of linebackers would’ve suffered the same fate. Solid game from Cincy’s MIKE.

Zac Taylor

I have some beef with his third-and-1 play call early in the fourth quarter, but Zac Taylor was quite solid Sunday and during the entire week. Traveling overseas is never an easy task for a head coach, but the Bengals’ strategy worked well and he managed a good game for the offense.

Losers from Bengals’ 34-17 win over Falcons in NFL Week 9

DJ Turner II

It’s tough, but two defensive pass interference penalties in the end zone for Cincinnati’s No. 1 cornerback cost the Bengals 14 points. Turner had a tall task against Atlanta’s No. 1 wideout Drake London and was solid outside of the red zone. He just couldn’t get away with being a bit too grabby in the painted part of the field.

Boye Mafe

Boye Mafe’s standard as a pass rusher has become so high that a game with just one pressure on 31 pass rushing snaps has to be noted. Mafe also got bulldozed on one of Robinson’s explosive plays in run defense. Not his best day, but he’s good to make up for it.
