Jordan Battle was selected No. 95 overall in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Bengals. Prior to the NFL, Battle spent four years at Alabama (2019-2022) where he started 44 of the 54 games he played under the legendary Nick Saban. He was named a team captain and first-team All-SEC as a senior in 2022.
Cincinnati began rotating Battle in as a starter during his rookie season when Nick Scott was struggling on the field. He eventually took over for the second half of the year, but returned to the bench in 2024 when Vonn Bell was brought back. Much like the year before, Battle was soon brought back onto the field to finish the year when the veteran in front of him failed.
There wasn’t anyone to prohibit Battle from starting in 2025. He led the team with 112 tackles and four interceptions, but was also a factor in the Bengals’ tackling woes throughout the year. For every impact play he made, there was a head-scratcher to follow. Still, six total turnovers forced and a full season of starting under his belt has the coaching staff confident in Battle’s progression entering 2026.
Contract details
Battle is entering the last year of his four-year, $5,325,016 rookie contract. The deal has essentially ballooned to a total value of $7,522,878 as his 2026 base salary increased to $3,674,000 from $1,145,000 when he qualified for a Level-One Proven Performance Escalator (PPE) as a non-first-rounder who’s played a lot of football after three years. His base salary is also the amount of cash he will earn this season. When adding his signing bonus proration of $218,185, his salary cap hit for the year is $3,892,185.

There was a clear sense of support behind Battle this offseason. Bryan Cook was signed to start next to him, and Cincinnati left the draft without selecting a safety. He’s the clear starter for the second straight year under defensive coordinator Al Golden.
Battle is up for a contract extension, but is likely behind cornerbacks DJ Turner II and Dax Hill in the pecking order for a new deal. Regardless, there appears to be more trust in Battle now compared to his first few years. We’ll see if that translates to consistency over 17 games.
