The last day for NFL clubs to host "30" visits for NFL Draft prospects was Wednesday, April 16. We now know a player the Cincinnati Bengals hosted a 30 visit that day.
Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. appeared on Chris Simms Unbuttoned Wednesday and was asked what offensive lineman have to learn going from the college level to the NFL. Brown's answer incidentally included him saying he ran into LSU OL Emery Jones during his pre-draft visit with the Bengals.
"I spend my time here, my offseason here in Cincinnati, and so a lot of times I see a lot of these kids coming in on their 30 visit," Brown said. "So I just saw Emery Jones from LSU, I believe, and I had the opportunity to talk to him."
Jones was a three-year starter for LSU at right tackle. He was a four-star recruit in the same recruiting class Will Campbell was a part of, but while Campbell is expected to be a top-10 pick, Jones may have to wait a minute before he hears his name called.
The A to Z Sports Mock Draft Database has Jones ranked No. 73 in this class, meaning he's projected to go off the board in the third round. The Bengals hold the 49th and 81st picks in the second and third round, respectively.
Cincinnati will look to draft a guard with one of its first three picks. Jones could be an option in the second round, but he's more likely a fallback plan in the third. Jalen Rivers, who also came to town on a 30 visit, could also be in play with that pick.
Many more of the Bengals' 30 visits have gone unreported by insiders, and Brown certainly isn't privy to all of them. Oftentimes we'll hear about a visit after the player was drafted by the team.
Jones' visit almost slipped through the cracks, but not quite.
