Cleveland Browns’ path to the playoffs in 2023 was a bumpy one and probably wouldn’t have happened if they didn’t stumble upon some magic.

Joe Flacco was a crucial part of the team in Cleveland down the stretch and now he is a free agent after playing in a playoff game for the Browns.

A source has shared with A to Z Sports that Flacco and the Browns do indeed have an interest in getting a deal done for him to return in 2024. The expectation is that he will see what teams are offering elsewhere and it would have to be a chance to start or compete for him to take it over Cleveland. Another possibility is that a team gives him a lucrative backup deal, which the Browns wouldn’t likely do.

It was first reported by Brad Stainbrook of theOBR that Flacco’s reps and the Browns met during the NFL Combine.

Flacco was 4-1 as the starter for the Browns down the stretch of the final five games of the regular season. The veteran quarterback threw 13 touchdown passes and completed 60 percent of his passes. One downfall was the eight interceptions that he threw. While Flacco elevated the passing game and had a career-high 323 passing yards per game in Cleveland, he did throw eight interceptions in the five games.

In the playoff loss to the Houston Texans, Flacco had two interceptions returned. Other than Cleveland, the New England Patriots feel like the biggest contender to sign Flacco. They have a couple of reasons that stick out and you can read about them here.

Everyone knows if Flacco comes back to Cleveland it is to be the backup. The Browns have a big investment in Deshaun Watson that they must let play out.

The legal tampering period begins on Monday, so things are really about to take off around the NFL. Flacco is going to be one of the veteran quarterbacks on the market and there’s a legit chance he sticks around in Cleveland.
