Easy clue reveals why the Cleveland Browns just made their third trade of the 2026 NFL Draft thanks to a move another team made
Andrew Berry is on the board with a third draft trade for the Cleveland Browns and it makes a whole lot of sense why this one happened.
It’s shaping up to be another strong draft for the Cleveland Browns and they needed it after bringing in a good group last year. Day 1 was all about filling the two biggest holes. Offensive tackle Spencer Fano and wideout KC Concepcion are going to be key pieces for the Browns.
On Day 2, the Browns have been aggressive with adding more high-end talent. Wide receiver Denzel Boston and safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren are going to be key pieces for the Browns. The latest news on the Browns in the draft has them adding more capital.
Browns’ draft trade may have been due to their target coming off the board before their pick
Cleveland traded out of pick No. 74 from the Kansas City Chiefs by sending the pick to the New York Giants for No. 105 overall in the fourth-round, No. 145 in the fifth-round, and a 2027 seventh round pick. Before the Browns agreed to trade out of the pick, Georgia TE Oscar Delp was selected by the New York Giants. The Browns have now made three trades after trading out of No. 6, up for McNeil-Warren, and now out of No. 74.
Delp had been tabbed as a draft for the Browns with his ability to be in-line and as a receiver. Cleveland had Delp in for a top-30 visit and he’s a player head coach Todd Monken had familiarity with from his time at Georgia. Delp would have fit nicely alongside Harold Fannin Jr. as the second tight end in Cleveland. With Delp off the board, it appears the Browns didn’t have a player they valued enough to pick at the No. 74 slot.
The key piece here is that the Browns have added a fourth-round pick in next year’s draft. Extra capital is going to be key in the 2027 NFL Draft when the quarterback class is expected to be much better than the 2026 draft. Unless Deshaun Watson regains form in a strong way or Shedeur Sanders flips a switch, the Browns are going to be in the market for a new quarterback a year from now.
Cleveland now has six picks on Day 3 of the draft with four of those coming in the fifth round alone. The Browns very well could make more noise on the trade front with three moves now made during the draft.
