David Njoku showed raw emotion with what he said after the Cleveland Browns major NFL trade deadline decision
The Browns surprised people with how they acted at the trade deadline.
The Cleveland Browns were a bit of a surprise with how they handled the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. Cleveland, sitting at 2-6 and clearly looking toward the future, has no real hopes of making the playoffs this season.
Still, the Browns weren’t really sellers at the deadline, making just one small move trading DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to the Chicago Bears. That was simply a case of moving a player who wasn’t seeing the field. Cleveland had several players who could have been trade candidates, including TE David Njoku.

“Of course, I was terrified,” Njoku said about waiting until the trade deadline to find out whether he’d been dealt.
“If you ask me if I’m happy one more time, I’m going to lose my (expletive),” Njoku said. “Listen, dawg, I found out the same way you did — at 4 p.m. yesterday. I’m here. I ain’t (expletive) leaving.”
The former Pro Bowl tight end is in the final year of his contract and wants to remain in Cleveland. However, as he approaches age 30, the Browns also have another emerging tight end in rookie Harold Fannin Jr. Njoku, a first-round pick by the Browns in 2017, has developed into one of the league’s better tight ends when healthy over the past few seasons.
“I’m so happy, man. I don’t know how else to put it,” Njoku said on Wednesday. “I’m so happy. For real. I’m serious.”
Njoku said he would love to work out a new deal with the Browns but wouldn’t confirm whether contract talks are underway. So far this season, the veteran tight end has 260 receiving yards and two touchdowns through seven games. Cleveland’s decision to keep him is good for the locker room, where Njoku provides strong leadership and presence. It’s clear he’s built a bond in Cleveland and doesn’t want to be anywhere else.
