Good news has already surfaced around Browns WR KC Concepcion following his worrisome exit in loss to Jets
KC Concepcion was severely missed against the Jets and a positive update has come about from the rookie wideout after his exit against New York.
The Cleveland Browns are 3-2 after falling 17-12 to the New York Jets in Week 5. Cleveland couldn’t stretch its winning streak to four games, and the Browns’ offense struggled for most of the afternoon with just 198 total yards.
The bigger concern coming out of the loss was rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion, who left the game early. However, a good update has surfaced on the young wideout.
Browns rookie WR KC Concepcion ruled out after hit to the head
Early in the game, Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick delivered a hard hit to the head area of Concepcion. The rookie was ruled out almost instantly with a head injury. The hit likely resulted in a Concepcion landing in the concussion protocol.
Losing Concepcion hurt an offense that already had trouble moving the football. He’s the Browns’ second-leading receiver with 18 catches for 149 yards on the season. The only player ahead of him is fellow rookie wide receiver Denzel Boston, who has 330 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions. Cleveland has leaned on the two rookies to be key parts of the passing game, and it was a big hit once Concepcion was out of the lineup.
On the flip side, the defense played well enough to win. The Browns’ defensive line recorded three sacks without defensive tackle Mason Graham. Linebacker Quincy Williams was the standout defender with 11 tackles and three forced fumbles against his old team. Holding New York to 17 points should have been enough, but the offense never found a rhythm.
Concepcion provides an update on social media
After the game, Concepcion posted a picture of himself to his Instagram story with a message for fans.
“Y’all know I’m good thanks to the Lord and Savior.”
The post is a welcome sign for the Browns and their fans. Concepcion looks fine visibly, and he was clearly on his phone shortly after the game. This doesn’t appear to be a situation that will keep him sidelined long-term.
Concepcion’s head injury will force him to work through the league’s protocol before he can suit up again.
Week 6 matchup with the Ravens looms for Cleveland
The Browns have an important game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6. It’s a significant AFC North matchup for Cleveland, and the Browns will want Concepcion on the field for it. Losing him for any stretch would put even more weight on Boston and the rest of the receiver room.
An offense that managed fewer than 200 yards against the Jets can’t afford to be shorthanded against Baltimore. How long it takes the rookie wideout to clear the protocol will be a major focus this week.
