KC Concepcion Injury: Update on Browns rookie wideout following dirty hit by Jets’ Minkah Fitzpatrick
An update on where things stand with Browns rookie wide reciever KC Concepcion following his exit against the Jets in Week 5 action.
Injury has quickly hit the Cleveland Browns in their Week 5 matchup against the New York Jets.
Browns rookie wide receiver KC Concepcion took a hard hit from Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick on Cleveland’s second offensive drive. Immediately, Concepcion looked limp on the field and you could tell it wasn’t good.
The Browns trailed 7-3 when Concepcion went down. They’ll have to find a way back without one of their top weapons the rest of the way against New York.
Browns rule out KC Concepcion after hit from Minkah Fitzpatrick
The officials flagged Fitzpatrick for unnecessary roughness on the play, which made it clear they viewed it as a dirty hit on the Browns’ rookie wideout. Concepcion walked off the field, and the Browns ruled him out just minutes later. The flag against Fitzpatrick was his second personal foul on the drive, as he ripped off Concepcion’s helmet a couple of plays earlier.
The speed of ruling out Concepcion so quickly shows how serious of a potential concussion this could be for the Browns rookie. Teams don’t often move that quickly on a ruling unless there’s real concern about a player’s status.
Concepcion had one catch for five yards against the Jets before he exited. On the season, the rookie has 18 receptions for 149 receiving yards.
Concepcion has become a key piece of the Browns offense
Cleveland used the No. 24 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Concepcion out of Texas A&M. He’s earned a steady role right away. Concepcion has been the Browns’ second-leading wide receiver, trailing only fellow rookie Denzel Boston.
Losing him is a tough blow for this offense. The Browns love to get Concepcion the ball in space because he’s a player who can do damage after the catch. That skill set gives Cleveland a different dimension in the passing game, and it isn’t easy to replace in the middle of a game.
Without Concepcion, more of the load figures to fall on Boston and the rest of the Browns’ pass catchers against New York. Getting production from someone other than the top two rookies is going to be key if Cleveland wants to erase the early deficit.
It’s a frustrating development early in the Week 5 game against the Jets, especially with the Browns already playing from behind. Concepcion had started to carve out a real role as one of the team’s go-to options in his first NFL season.
From here, Concepcion’s status will have to be monitored as next week goes on. The coming days will show where things stand for the Browns’ first-round rookie.
