The Dallas Cowboys' defensive coaching staff is receiving a major shake up ahead of the 2024 NFL season. Dan Quinn is gone as he'll take over as head coach of the Washington Commanders and he took former Cowboys passing game coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. with him.

In the meantime, defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is joining Dallas as the new man in front of the unit. But his staff won't include a valued member of the organization: Defensive line coach Aden Durde.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys are losing Durde to the Seattle Seahawks, who are hiring him as defensive coordinator.

Durde, who interviewed for the vacant position in Dallas, is a beloved member of the team. He coached the Cowboys' D-line during the three-year period Quinn was in Dallas. During that span, the team featured one of the most ferocious pass rushes in the league. 

Now granted, Micah Parsons happened to arrive simultaneously to the franchise. But make no mistake about it, as talented as he was from day one, he lacked a complete arsenal of pass rushing techniques. Aden Durde returned to the Cowboys in 2021, having started his coaching career in Dallas as a coaching intern from 2014-15. Now, he will join one of the most respected defensive minds in the game as Mike Macdonald debuts as head coach in Seattle. 

Mike Zimmer will need to figure out who to bring in as defensive line coach quickly as the offseason is already heating up with the scouting combine and free agency in the horizon.
