It’s only Week 2 but injuries will be a big topic going into the Dallas Cowboys’ matchup against the Washington Commanders.

The Cowboys lost safety Malik Hooker and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown during their season opener against the New York Giants and the Commanders had a long list of players on their injury report all week.

Let’s dive into the final game statuses and our notes on it.

Takeaways

  • The Commanders defense is severly banged up but most players are ready to go. The biggest name ruled out has to be starting LB Frankie Luvu, who plays a major role in Washington’s defense. He’s a frequent blitzer. He and rookie Sonny Styles generated a lot of havoc in Week 1.
  • TE Chig Okonwko being out is no small thing, as the Commanders showed a lot of 12 personnel looks in their season opener. Going heavy on the Cowboys will be a bit more challenging with this blow.
  • Multiple starters on the Commanders DL were on the report, but only Kinlaw is listed as questionable. He had a very good game versus the Eagles, so he’ll be a gametime decision to monitor.
  • The Cowboys ruling out Overshown is no surprise, but it is major. HC Brian Schottenheimer confirmed it would be rookie Jaishawn Barham taking his place on Sunday as the “green dot.”
