Cowboys vs. Texans: Final injury update minutes before kickoff sets the stage for game-defining matchup
The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans take on each other in a Week 4 matchup where both teams are desperate for a win. And it will largely be dictated by these injury updates.
The Dallas Cowboys take on the Houston Texans in a showdown where injuries will play a big role. And also, a newcomer’s availability.
As expected, new Cowboys cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is active and ready to go for Week 4. You can expect him to be on a snap count, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported he’ll go for about 30 snaps. As usual, that will depend on the flow of the game.
And the Cowboys need an answer to top Texans wide receiver Nico Collins, who is returning from injury on Sunday after missing back-to-back games. In Week 1, he went for seven catches, 75 yards, and touchdown as the Texans lost a 36-31 shootout against the Josh Allen-led Buffalo Bills. Since then, the Texans scored six on the Cincinnati Bengals and 17 on the Indianapolis Colts.
Porter Jr. won’t be alone on that task as Shavon Revel Jr. is also active after being a full participant in practice on Friday. They will likely perform a similar role as boundary cornerbacks while DaRon Bland plays to the field, as Stephen Jones recently alluded to on the radio.
How much Collins plays and how much Porter Jr. covers him will be one of the major storylines of today’s Texas-sized matchup. Let’s dive into the rest of the inactives.
Cowboys inactives
- LB DeMarvion Overshown
- CB Cobie Durant
- CB Caelen Carson
- RB Emari Demercado
- OLB James Houston
- OL Ajani Cornelius
- WR Camden Brown
PRACTICE SQUAD ELEVATION: DB Reddy Steward, DB Juanyeh Thomas
Notes on Cowboys inactives
- With Overshown missing his third game of the season, all eyes will (again) be on rookie LB Jaishawn Barham. The last two weeks, Barham played at a very high level. He is one of the best rookie linebackers entering Week 4.
- It’s no surprise that Demercado is a healthy scratch again following Tyler Goodson’s strong Cowboys debut in Rio last week. The Cowboys run game showed signs of life and Javonte Williams might have finally found a running mate.
- With Porter Jr. on the roster, Caelen Carson is back on the inactives list despite being healthy.
Texans inactives
The biggest name here is star LB Azeez Al-Shaair. But offensive guard Ed Ingram, who was questionable on Friday’s injury report, is playing. That’s good news for the Texans, but expect the Cowboys to have plenty opportunities to wreak some havoc against Houston’s interior offensive line.
