Broncos quarterback drops strong words on offensive coordinator Davis Webb after Denver’s first preseason game
Offensive coordinator Davis Webb called plays for the Denver Broncos against the Atlanta Falcons in preseason opener.
The biggest storyline of the offseason for the Denver Broncos was easily Sean Payton’s decision to hand over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Davis Webb.
Payton has called plays for most of his career as a head coach, so it was a big decision to hand over those duties to Webb, who is just 31 years old.
Webb made his preseason debut as the Broncos’ offensive play-caller on Friday night against the Atlanta Falcons, and it went extremely well.
Jarrett Stidham, who started at quarterback for the Broncos against the Falcons, made it very clear after the 27-7 win that he’s a big fan of Webb.
“He’s been great,” said Stidham of Webb. “I can’t speak highly enough of Davis and everything that he’s meant to me since coming here.
“But just seeing him grow into this new role that he’s got. I mean, he’s going to be really really good for a really long time.”
Stidham’s comments echo what Payton had to say after the game.
“It was smooth,” said Payton. “I felt like, maybe there was a play or two when we got down to three seconds, but the subs were good, Davis was on point. I thought the QBs were good in and out of the huddle.”
It’s clear the Broncos have a rising star in Webb — which means other teams will come calling this offseason. But fans can worry about that after the season. For now, all that matters is 2026 and what the Broncos can accomplish with Webb calling the plays.
