J.K. Dobbins calls his shot and it would mean the world to the Denver Broncos if it comes true
The Denver Broncos could really use a strong season from J.K. Dobbins in 2026, and his latest comments bring a lot of excitement toward it happening.
There’s no denying that J.K. Dobbins will be a major factor for the Denver Broncos and the success they can achieve during the 2026 NFL season. Dobbins looked like one of the best running backs in the NFL last year through 10 games with the Broncos, rushing for 772 yards and four touchdowns while tracking toward his first 1,000-yard season. A fluke foot injury then knocked him out for the remainder of the year after those 10 games, and Denver lost one of its most important playmakers down the stretch.
The Broncos’ passing game will be a focal point with wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle as the primary targets. But a strong running game is crucial when the postseason arrives, and Dobbins staying healthy for the entirety of a season would be a massive win for the franchise. It could have been the difference in Denver making a Super Bowl run last year had he been available. The Broncos brought Dobbins back on a two-year deal for a reason and he’s ready to show why.
Dobbins makes a bold promise about the 2026 season
Dobbins made a statement on Friday that turned heads, according to Romi Bean of CBS News Colorado. Dobbins stated he will play in all 17 games and finish as the NFL’s top rusher this season.
“I’ll pinky promise all of you right now,” Dobbins said.
Dobbins’ ability to break tackles and create chunk plays is going to be key for Denver this season, coming off a productive 2025 campaign. But the most important thing will be keeping Dobbins available, which has been a problem over the course of his career and is really the only thing that has probably stopped him from being one of the best running backs in the league.
Dobbins’ injury history is the one concern holding him back
During his career, Dobbins has dealt with the following injuries: a torn hamstring, a torn LCL, meniscus, and ACL in his knee in 2021, an Achilles tear in 2023, an MCL sprain in 2024, and the foot injury last season with Denver.
The talent has never been the question with Dobbins. When healthy, he has shown the ability to be a top-tier back in the NFL. The durability concerns are the one factor that has kept him from reaching that ceiling on a consistent basis.
If Dobbins’ promise comes true and he stays on the field for all 17 games, it’s going to be a major development for the Broncos in 2026. Denver has every reason to feel good about the confidence its running back is carrying into the season.
