The Detroit Lions had a good handful of extension or fifth-year option questions this offseason, and by far the biggest one is with receiver Jameson Williams. Like Aidan Hutchinson, he's up for an extension this offseason, but the answer for him is not as easy as it is for Hutchinson.

Williams had a big 2024 season and hit the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career, and that was awesome, but he's also had to deal with two different multi-game suspensions, two different injuries, and was the subject of an internal affairs investigation by the Detroit Police.

While he's a good kid and the team has shown belief in him, there's been thought that belief may not be strong enough to get Williams the big pay day at this time and that going the fifth-year option route and giving Williams a year to show that he can have a season with no drama and big output.

We talked with Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes at the 2025 NFL League Meetings, and he hinted that the Lions were most likely heading the fifth-year option way with Williams.

"Yeah. I mean, look, it's heading that way." Holmes said. "You know he's most likely gonna be on that. He was a tremendous player for us last year. He's still scratching the surface. I do think he's got more in him as well."

The cost of the fifth-year option for Williams this year would be $15,493 million in 2025. Like we said earlier, if he can go out and have a big time season with absolutely no drama with suspensions or injuries, then he will be standing firmly in line to get himself a mega deal after the 2025 season. We'll see what happens in due time.
