Dan Campbell offers really big injury updates on Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch
Detroit Lions got encouraging injury updates from Dan Campbell on Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch as training camp opened. There’s a lot more optimism than there was just a few days ago.
The first day of Detroit Lions training camp is here, and we got to start it all off by getting some big questions answered on Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph. Two of the best safeties in the league who the team recently put on the PUP list. Here’s what Dan Campbell had to say:
Kerby Joseph
“Everything that I told you in the spring still applies to that,” Campbell said. “We’ve been working to this, but we’re still in this. He’s running on ground. We’re starting to change the direction. We’re not going to grind this for another two or three weeks, man. So I cannot give you a true answer. He’s working his tail off. He’s not really had a vacation. He’s been here with our guys, busting his tail. So he’s putting in the work. He feels pretty good right now. But there we got a long way to go, and there is still an unknown. But I like where he’s at. We like where he’s at.”
Sounds like exactly what we thought when Joseph got put on the PUP. He might feel that he’s ready to go, but the Lions want to be smart about it and not get him on the field until they absolutely need to.
Brian Branch
“Branch is doing well.” Campbell said. This will be obviously PUP. There’s no setbacks. Take it as it comes, and we’ll see. I’m sure late training camp, maybe early September, to start practicing.”
That is absolutely huge news for Branch. It looks like there is a chance that he could potentially be back very early in the season. Maybe not quite Week 1, but perhaps Week 2 or Week 3 could be in play for him. If Branch is able to start practicing in August instead of September, that would be ideal for the Lions.
