The 2026 Detroit Lions schedule is coming out at 7:30 on Thursday night, but until then, we’re going off the leaks. We now know who the Lions will open up their season with, and it’s a team Lions head coach Dan Campbell knows a lot about.

The Lions will open their season against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field

At this point, we don’t know what time this game will be, but I’d venture to guess it’s at 1:00, considering the Saints are coming off a not-so-hot season and didn’t really sign any major stars. We’ll see when the schedule comes out.

Campbell obviously will coach against his former team for the first time since the 2023 season, and Kellen Moore will coach against his former team for the first time ever.

The Saints are in an interesting spot right now. They’re going through a pretty clear rebuild, but they got a hot streak a few different times in 2025. Tyler Shough looked pretty good in the starts he got, and it should be interesting to see where that goes with him.

The Saints put a lot into their defense during free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft, and at this point, we know they won’t have future Hall of Famer Cameron Jordan on their team. I’m not quite sure what to expect from them at this juncture. But this should be a game where the Lions can win.
