The Detroit Lions fired offensive coordinator John Morton earlier this week, and they are wasting no time looking for their next OC. They have an interview set up with Washington Commanders quarterbacks coach David Blough already, and now they’ve reached out to the biggest fish there is.

The Lions have reportedly reached out to former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel about their OC job

This is the big one right here for the Lions. This is the one that everyone wants to happen, and it should be the one that the Lions waste zero time on. There dang near shouldn’t even be an interview. If the Lions are serious about winning a Super Bowl, this is the Super Bowl-winning move they should make.

We’ve already gone into great depth about why McDaniel fits so well with the Lions, but just reiterate, the Lions get one of the best run game architects in football, a guy made for Jared Goff and his playing style, and an obsessive detail monster who wants explosive plays and has a ton of pre-snap movement and in-play motions to achieve it. This is Ben Johnson adjacent right here. Maybe even better.
