Packers’ wide receiver room remains thin for Lions showdown despite plenty of encouraging news

Almost the entire Green Bay wide receiver room appeared on the Week 7 injury report, and quarterback Jordan Love also dealt with a back issue during practice.

The Green Bay Packers released their final injury report ahead of Sunday’s Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions, and only one player is ruled out: linebacker Zaire Franklin.

Four are listed as questionable: guard Aaron Banks (knee/toe), defensive tackle Jordon Riley (Achilles, still on PUP), cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (hamstring), and wide receiver Bo Melton (back).

The rest of the Packers injury report carries far less concern. Several key players were limited throughout the week, but most of the important names are good to go against Detroit, including quarterback Jordan Love.

Wide receiver numbers

Almost the entire wide receiver room appeared on the injury report this week. Matthew Golden (shoulder), Christian Watson (ankle), and Savion Williams (ankle) were all limited at some point in practice. However, none of the three carries a game status, so the most important receivers on the roster will be available against the Lions.

Melton returned to practice on Friday but is listed as questionable, and his potential absence would potentially create a numbers problem. Without him, Green Bay would only have four healthy wide receivers on the 53-man roster: Golden, Watson, Williams, and rookie J. Michael Sturdivant.

The Packers will probably elevate Coleman Owen from the practice squad anyway, though. Owen is also the punt returner while Skyy Moore is out on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

For the most part, the receivers who matter the most in the passing game are healthy, and the concern is depth. Besides Owen, the Packers also have Isaiah Neyor and Quincy Skinner Jr. on the practice squad at wide receiver.

Other injuries on the roster

Along the offensive line, Aaron Banks was limited throughout the week with knee and toe injuries. Once again, he’s questionable. Banks has played only 22 offensive snaps this season, all in Week 2 against the New York Jets.

On defense, the list is longer. These players were all limited throughout the week: Defensive tackle Anthony Campbell (ankle), cornerback Brandon Cisse (shoulder, neck), linebacker Zaire Franklin (shin), defensive tackle Jordon Riley (Achilles – PUP), cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (hamstring), and edge defender Lukas Van Ness (illness).

Franklin has already been ruled out. Riley and St-Juste are questionable, but the other ones are good to go.

St-Juste missed the previous game against the Dallas Cowboys with his hamstring injury. Being a limited participant all week puts him in a much better position than he was a week ago.

Riley’s situation is different. The defensive tackle is on the PUP list while recovering from an Achilles tear, so his inclusion on the report is more about the recovery process than an immediate contribution against the Lions. It’s unclear when the Packers will activate him to the 53-man roster.

Jordan Love is good to go

The biggest name on the report was Jordan Love. The quarterback was designated as a limited participant on Wednesday with a back injury, but that was only an estimation because the team did not hold a full practice that day.

On Thursday and Friday, Love received a full practice designation. Therefore, he does not carry a game status and will start against Detroit. Love had already said he would not miss the Lions game, and the practice reports backed that up.
