The Jacksonville Jaguars have dealt with some terrible injury issues this season, and one could argue it has affected the second half of their 2023 season. Before their win over the Carolina Panthers this week, they were on a four-game losing streak, playing with a banged-up Trevor Lawrence.
This week, he sat out. The Panthers are bad enough that the Jaguars had faith in Beathard to win without Lawrence. And they did win. But, now the attention turns back to injuries, as Lawrence is getting ready for a potential playoff push.
After missing this last week, as he should have since he was playing almost too hurt, Doug Pederson gave an update on Lawrence's status on Monday.
"Beginning with Trevor [QB Trevor Lawrence], he is progressing," Pederson told the media on Monday. "He was in today, getting his treatment and rehab, all of that. It's kind of day-to-day right now, so we'll see how he is on Wednesday. We'll see what his limitations are or whatever they might be, but he is definitely improving.
"No, he didn't have a setback. He just wasn't there as far as throwing the football at the end of the week, so it just kind of kept him inside. He did come out for some of the team stuff and was around for that, but I just wanted to give him extra time in the training room before he came out."
If the Jaguars are confident Beathard can beat Tennessee, who is not very good, with C.J. Beathard, and Lawrence isn't ready yet – I'd say you keep him out this week, too. However, this is a must-win game, but one could argue that the week after this one is even more important.
The Jaguars will have some decisions to make, for sure.
