The Kansas City Chiefs officially know their opponent for next week's AFC Championship Game.
The Chiefs will host the Buffalo Bills at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 26, and the game will be broadcast on CBS at 6:30 p.m. ET. This comes after the Ravens lost to Buffalo 27-25 in the AFC divisional round in a back-and-forth, turnover-ridden affair for Baltimore.
Kansas City traveled to Highmark Stadium in Week 11 of the 2024 NFL season to face Buffalo, but it wasn't a good time. The Chiefs' only true blemish on their record this season was their 30-21 loss to Josh Allen's Bills. This time around, things will be a little different, though. The game will be played on the K.C.'s home turf, which makes all the difference as Arrowhead Stadium has one of the best home-field advantages in the league.
The last time the Chiefs faced the Bills in the playoffs was last season when K.C. traveled to Highmark Stadium for the AFC divisional round. Patrick Mahomes earned his first-ever road playoff win en route to the team's third Super Bowl title. The last time these two teams met in the conference championship game was in 2020. Kansas City won that game handily 38-24. In 2021, they shared the field for the infamous 13-second game, perhaps the most infamous of their recent postseason matchups. What is the common theme between these teams in the last three postseason games? The Chiefs sent the Bills home each time.
The best part about this matchup is that fans will get to see two of the league's best quarterbacks face off. Patrick Mahomes has all of the glory of MVPs and Super Bowls, while Allen has been regularly viewed as one of the league's best, just without all the accolades. The AFC title game should be filled with all of the excitement and theatrics you'd come to expect from a penultimate game.
Which team will be able to make it to New Orleans, Louisiana, to compete in Super Bowl LIX? The Chiefs are two games away from achieving their goals for the 2024 NFL season, and it's hard to imagine them coming this far to fail.
