Miami Dolphins Week 3 decision forces Kansas City Chiefs into a rare jersey combination on the road, and they won’t be complaining
The Kansas City Chiefs have a rare opportunity to wear their home uniforms on the road in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins. They haven’t done it since October of 2022. The last time they wore red in Hard Rock Stadium, good things happened.
The Miami Dolphins announced Thursday that they wouldn’t wear their typical home jersey uniform combination for the Week 3 tilt with the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead of their Aqua tops and white pants, they’re wearing all-white on Sunday, Sept. 27.
Nobody gave the Dolphins the memo that you’re not supposed to wear white after Labor Day. That decision has allowed the Chiefs to make a somewhat rare jersey decision of their own for Week 3’s game.
Chiefs to wear home Arrowhead red jersey combination on the road in Week 3
The Kansas City Chiefs had a few different jersey combination options given the Dolphins’ decision. They have a road combination of white tops and red pants. That was what they were initially slated to wear. Chiefs rookies will have to wait another week for the road uniforms.
They could’ve matched Miami’s alternate color combination decision and gone with red-on-red uniforms. Nope, they’re not doing that.
Instead, they went with their home color combination. That’s the red tops and white pants, of course. This marks the third straight week they’ve worn this jersey color combination. It’s starting to feel like good luck after the team started 2-0 in it.
It’s pretty rare that you get to wear your home jerseys on the road. It feels even rarer when it happens on another team’s home opener. That’ll be what K.C. is in for on Sunday. You have to go back to “Sunday Night Football” against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in October of 2022 to find the last time that the Chiefs wore their home color combination on the road. The Chiefs won that game 41–31.
It’s also worth noting that the last time the Chiefs wore their home red uniforms in Hard Rock Stadium, good things happened. They defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, ending a 50-year Super Bowl drought and kicking off an NFL dynasty. Less is on the line in Week 3, but Kansas City is looking to move to 3-0 on Sunday. If they accomplish that, it’ll be the first time the team has started a season 3-0 since 2024.
“Obviously it’s a special place, and we were able to win the Super Bowl there, and it was my first Super Bowl, and it was a surreal experience,” Patrick Mahomes said on Wednesday. “But this week is about playing the Miami Dolphins, and I know how much stuff, like I said, we’ve got to get better at and how we continue to develop as a team and as an offense. It will be cool for about a second, and then you kind of move on to just playing the football game.”
