Chiefs HC Andy Reid knows Colts’ defense just took a major hit that he can take advantage of during Week 12 matchup
A big development for Kansas City’s matchup against the Colts in a couple of weeks.
The Kansas City Chiefs are focused on beating the Denver Broncos after their bye week, but they were just dealt a big break for their Week 12 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
That matchup will take place at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, and will be a pivotal one for both teams. The Colts are trying to hang on to the AFC’s No. 1 seed, and if Kansas City wants any hope in getting it, beating Indianapolis is a must. The Chiefs are fighting just to make the postseason at all, as they are currently on the outside looking in.
Colts will be without star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner during matchup against the Chiefs
Losing Buckner is a huge blow for the Colts. He is a former two-time All-Pro, three-time Pro Bowler, and was a PFWA All-Rookie Team member in 2016. Buckner injured his neck during Indianapolis’ loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, and will miss at least the next four games while on injured reserve.
He was having a tremendous season before getting hurt, posting 42 total tackles, four sacks, and 20 quarterback pressures. The Colts being down Buckner will give the Chiefs’ offense a major advantage, both in the rushing and passing attack.
Indianapolis’ defense has been great against the run thus far, allowing just 87 yards per game. K.C. has not had a very good rushing attack in 2025, but may find a bit more success in this game with Buckner out. Getting back starting left tackle Josh Simmons and running back Isiah Pacheco will also help.
The Colts’ defense has not been so great against the pass, surrendering the seventh-most yards in the league. With Buckner out of the lineup, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes could have extra time to scan the field and take advantage of the struggling Indianapolis secondary. However, the Colts recently acquired former All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to give their defensive back room a boost.
