Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce own a stake in the BWT Alpine F1 team. They became part owners and investors in the team, previously called Renault, in 2022. Since then, they’ve been hands-on, helping the team aim for growth and success in Formula One racing.

It doesn’t get much attention in Kansas City, mostly because it’s a global sport rather than a local one. BWT Alpine F1, a French-based brand competing in Formula One, that once upon a time scored double points every race, and even won races and championships. It hasn’t been great the last few years, and they finished the 2025 season as the worst team in the racing league.

However, they finished the production and development of the 2025 car early to focus on the 2026 car, and it’s working. Right now, five races into the 2026 season, Alpine is the best team in the midfield. They are currently fifth in points behind the top dogs of Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull. That’s a great place to be. But now, changes are being made.

Mahomes reacts to Alpine F1 team’s changes

Changes are underway within the Alpine team. According to Formula 1’s website, Gucci will become Alpine’s title partner in 2027, with the team set to race under a new banner and adopt the Gucci color scheme. There were rumors that Mercedes was going to try to buy an ownership stake in Alpine, to try to make them their junior team, similarly to Red Bull and Racing Bulls. However, that didn’t happen. They will still be Alpine’s engine and powertrain manufacturing, though.

Mahomes reacted to the news on Twitter with a few flame emojis, so it’s safe to say he’s excited. And this is a move we could have guessed he’d be excited about, considering he’s pretty into fashion and things of that nature. Not to mention, this could only help him get a better return on investment.
