One of the more intriguing picks the Kansas City Chiefs made during the 2025 NFL Draft was California Golden Bears cornerback Nohl Williams.
What was intriguing about the selection of Williams? The Chiefs traded the pick that they acquired from the Chicago Bears for All-Pro guard Joe Thuney, moving up 10 spots to take Williams. Rest assured that they would not have done that had they not have seen something special in Williams.
Originally beginning his collegiate career with the UNLV Rebels, Williams transferred to California in 2023. During his two seasons with the Golden Bears, he recorded 105 total tackles, nine interceptions, 15 passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. During his introductory press conference, Williams mentioned Chiefs All-Pro CB Trent McDuffie as someone he looks forward to learning from.
"It just comes from being consistent on the jugs and practicing my ball skills in practice and just trying to translate it on the field," Williams said about translating his skills to the pros. "Making sure my eyes are on the right spots, my feet are nice and clean and tight. How I'm going to translate to the pros, I feel like, just got to learn from guys like Trent McDuffie. And the other guys in the room, for sure. And just come to work every day and keep honing and perfecting my craft."
Williams has a similar skillset to McDuffie, excelling in press-man coverage, and doesn't hesitate to get physical against the run. Now entering his fourth NFL season, McDuffie finds himself in a mentor role as the leader of the Chiefs' CB room. The acquisition of Williams will also open things up for McDuffie on the field, including allowing him to play more in the slot as he did during his first two seasons.
