Las Vegas Raiders’ new head coach Klint Kubiak is already understanding just how powerful a job he has. Being the head coach of the Raiders isn’t just another gig. Look at some of the most famous head coaches in the history of the game, and there’s a chance they coached for the Raiders.

On the Las Vegas Raiders’ official website, some pictures were posted of the first days of OTAs, when pretty much everyone showed up. However, the storyline was not about who showed up and who didn’t, like these kinds of things usually are. This time, the storyline was that none of the players were wearing Raiders helmets. I mean, sure, they were—the helmets were all still silver with the black stripe down the middle. However, none of them had the shield logo on the side of the helmet, on either side, to be exact.

Klint Kubiak is making players earn the shield

Kubiak is making the players earn their shield logo on the side of their helmets. The photos we have are because they have not yet earned the Raider logo. How do they do that? Well, I guess only the team knows that. But you have to love this kind of mentality. Earned, not given.

This is on par with what we were told Kubiak’s identity would be.

“It starts with your effort, the way you attack, and then it’s very team-first, team-focused, making sure we put the team first, we play together as a team. A phrase he used in the team meeting yesterday was to ‘ride for the brand,’ meaning that you’re kind of doing whatever it takes to help our organization move forward in the right direction,” Kirk Cousins said when asked what Kubiak said the identity of the team was.

“So, that was really what he led with yesterday in the team meeting: the importance of truly being a team, playing together, and then playing with shocking effort, I believe, was the word he used. And that’s something that will be coached as long as they’re here, it’s going to be coached every day.”

The Raiders seem to be doing things the right way.
