De’Von Achane’s 2026 season ends with a whimper in September
Life just got a whole lot harder for both the Miami Dolphins and their star running back.
The Miami Dolphins have lost each of their first three games in 2026, with the team showing some steady signs of progression along the way. But their latest loss comes with an even heavier toll.
The Dolphins played most of Sunday’s contest against the Kansas City Chiefs without running back De’Von Achane, who left early with a knee injury on Miami’s opening offensive possession. By the end of the game, Achane was back on the sideline without pads — but head coach Jeff Hafley said after the game that things didn’t sound ‘optimistic’. He was right. Achane’s season is reportedly over.

ESPN’s Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter broke the news this morning ahead of Jeff Hafley’s day-after press conference that Achane suffered a torn ACL on the play in question. Achane made a steep cut and was subsequently grabbed by his helmet, torquing him awkwardly on a play that ultimately was his last of the year.
Miami will have to look to their young backs to pick up the pieces — although even more of the weight of this offensive attack is also going to shift to quarterback Malik Willis. The Dolphins got season-high contributions from Willis on the ground in Week 3, with the quarterback scampering for over 50 yards on 9 carries.
Second-year running back Ollie Gordon II touched the ball 20 times without Achane in the picture and with third-year back Jaylen Wright inactive. The injury should offer opportunities for both. It also gives Miami a potential stroke of luck in their addition of RB Jarquez Hunter from the Los Angeles Rams during training camp. Miami swapped veteran wide receiver Tutu Atwell for Hunter, who is now on Miami’s practice squad, straight up.
The Dolphins have options. But none of them are De’Von Achane.
