The Dolphins are loading up on lottery tickets ahead of the end of their 2025 season — another youngster has signed to Miami’s active roster
What’s one more lottery ticket before the end of the season?
Everyone loves a good lottery ticket. The thrill of the possibility of hitting the jackpot creeps in every time. The Miami Dolphins, with their 2025 season trickling away, seem to agree. They simply cannot stop adding lottery tickets to the roster to carry them into the offseason. Miami added quarterback Cam Miller yesterday to their active roster, plucking him from the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad.
Today, interim general manager Champ Kelly has secured one more move. Without having to worry about the traditional roster balance that comes with a regular season, the Dolphins are adding a young running back to their roster just 48 hours away from the end of their season. One last lottery ticket for the future has arrived.
Dolphins add running back Donovan Edwards to the 53-man roster, place tight end Darren Waller on injured reserve
Former Michigan Wolverines running back Donovan Edwards gives the Dolphins another powerful runner for their backfield collection. Behind speedy De’Von Achane, Miami’s backs include Jaylen Wright, Ollie Gordon II, Jeff Wilson Jr. (practice squad), and now Edwards. Edwards is an explosive runner with good size, listed at 212 pounds. A team captain in 2024 with the University of Michigan, Edwards was at his best in 2022 — when he ran for 991 yards and 7 scores while averaging over 7 yards per carry.
Edwards went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft before signing on with the New York Jets and eventually latched on with the Washington Commanders’ practice squad ahead of the start of the 2025 season.
In order to make room for Edwards, the Dolphins transitioned tight end Darren Waller onto injured reserve. It marks the second time during the 2025 season that Waller has been placed on injured reserve, marking an unceremonious end to his comeback season from retirement. Waller’s year finishes with 24 receptions for 283 yards and 6 touchdowns.
