Expect a visible change for one Miami Dolphins defender upon his return to play
Miami Dolphins pass rusher Chop Robinson appears ready to return from his latest concussion. But something will be noticeably different the next time he takes the field.
The Miami Dolphins‘ pass rush has yet to really get things cranked up this season. The Dolphins are the NFL’s only team without a sack across the first two weeks of the season — and an unfortunate incident helped contribute to that slow start in Week 2.
Former first-round draft choice Chop Robinson was shelved against the 49ers with a concussion. The injury, reportedly suffered during last Wednesday’s practice, is the third Robinson has had in the last 12 months. And so now, as Robinson gears up for a return to action, he’ll be doing so with one thing dramatically different the next time you see him on the field. Robinson will join the growing trend among NFL players to wear a guardian cap during the regular season.

Good for Chop. The guardian cap is still a relatively new piece of optional equipment for players to wear. You see them plenty in the preseason and throughout training camp. But only recently have these extra pieces of head padding begun to show up in the regular season. And given Chop’s history of head injuries, it feels like an appropriate extra step to take.
Robinson, per his press availability on Thursday, reportedly stated that he’s suffered at least five concussions: two at Penn State and then the three since midway through last season.
The poster child for the guardian cap and protection is New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave. He suffered two scary concussions in close proximity back in 2024 before adopting the guardian cap — and he played in 16 games in 2025 while collecting over 150 targets as the Saints’ top option in the passing game. Robinson is obviously hopeful to get the same kind of effectiveness in his own availability moving forward.
