Miami moved the ball well and stayed aggressive, pushing the ball downfield. But their efforts were interrupted by adversity. RB Jaylen Wright was out. Ollie Gordon got banged up midway through the game. But the biggest development was the departure of RB De’Von Achane. Achane returned to the sideline at one point in the second half — but he was out of pads. And head coach Jeff Hafley’s update after the game doesn’t sound promising.

Now, we still need the formal details. And ‘does not sound optimistic’ could potentially mean a few different things. The natural inclination is to assume that, with this kind of wording, Achane may be facing a possible long-term injury. It’s important to not jump to conclusions, but Hafley’s wording should have Dolphins fans on red alert for bad news.
Should the Dolphins need to pick up the pieces without Achane for an extended period, the backfield will have to turn to a slew of second- and third-year backs to get it done. Ollie Gordon obviously got the heavy load today. Jaylen Wright’s return will need to be determined — but there’s also a young player with Jarquez Hunter on the practice squad who could be a candidate to assume snap share, too.
We’ll need to wait for the dust to settle and the news to be announced. Whatever it may be, it sounds like the Dolphins aren’t expecting good news.
