Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley shared how this season’s start can help shed a long-time complaint about recent Dolphins teams.
The Miami Dolphins do, indeed, have a plan. It is just not, unfortunately, the kind of cake you bake overnight. Some things cannot be rushed, as Dolphins fans have often found out the hard way throughout the last two decades.
It creates impatience on the outside. But the seeds of a better tomorrow are being planted. And you don’t have to take my word for it. Head coach Jeff Hafley laid it all out there for you. How, even through these trials, the Miami Dolphins will be better for it in the long run. And, in the process, can shed one of the long-standing complaints about recent Dolphins teams.

“When…I’m in the huddle with those guys, and the game is out of reach and I’m looking them in the eye. And they are so intent, and they’re playing as hard as they did the first snap of the game? That’s important to me. And it shows that those are the right guys. And it isn’t like that everywhere. There are certain (veterans)…you know how that goes, right? It’s all of a sudden, instead of sticking my face in there on play 67 when all they have to do is take a knee on the next play, but still sticking your face in there.
That’s why I appreciate the leaders that we have on this team and the vets that we have on this team because they’re doing that. And it’s important for them to do that, so the younger guys see what it’s supposed to be like. So as we do build this thing, that’s the mentality that we have. I do think there’s some rareness to that in the NFL.”

You want a team that won’t blink in the face of adversity? This is part of that grooming process. Not that you want to intentionally fall short in games. But how you conduct yourself between the lines, regardless of the total on the scoreboard. That has to be learned. Jeff Hafley and company are trying to teach them that.
This build, as are most in the NFL, will ultimately be determined by the talent the team picks and retains. Players win the day more often than not in the NFL. But players that are built the right way? That goes a long way in the calculus of what Miami is chasing. And the labels it is trying to shed.
It gives Miami’s games a larger purpose than this 2026 season. This is grooming the future of the Miami Dolphins. And the things hammered home today will be the things they’re known for down the road. So let’s hope Hafley and his group are hitting all the right talking points as this season gets fully underway.
