Former first-round pass rusher Chop Robinson. Robinson enjoyed a dynamic end to his rookie season in 2024. 2025? The year brought a whole bunch of growing pains. And amid a new regime in Miami, Robinson is facing a big season. So far the results are promising. But the team’s next big measuring stick for Chop Robinson is on hold. Miami’s opponent next week in practice and the preseason, the Washington Commanders, lost their left tackle to a triceps injury. Former Miami Dolphin tackle Laremy Tunsil is out indefinitely.

First and foremost, you hate to see it for Tunsil. The former Miami Dolphin was set to play his second season in Washington after six years in Houston — and he just turned 32 years old last week. His loss is a sobering reminder of the risks every team faces throughout the course of the preseason and training camp.
For the Dolphins? It means the next big litmus test for Chop Robinson is going to have to wait awhile.
Robinson and left tackle Patrick Paul have had their steady share of battles throughout the first two weeks of training camp. But the pair is especially familiar with one another — they’ve been practicing together for 3 years. Robinson, who is entering into a pivotal third season, has been one of the hottest names in camp. The fans (and likely the team) are eager to see him going against some other accomplished pass protectors to see just how real the hype is.
Unfortunately, Tunsil is off the table. The Dolphins will catch an additional pair of gifted tackles throughout their preseason schedule: New York’s Andrew Thomas and Atlanta’s Jake Matthews have played at a high level. But Miami won’t hold a joint practice with the Falcons and there’s a decent chance that the starters don’t play against Atlanta. So now all eyes are on whoever the Commanders tab at left tackle and, the following week, Thomas.
Clarity is on the way for Chop Robinson. It just may not be as obvious as it would have been after a showdown with Tunsil.
