‘The Dolphins aren’t hanging up on anyone’—The latest NFL trade deadline rumor mill narrows the field for potential goodbyes in Miami

The Miami Dolphins are receiving calls on several prominent players. But it sounds like the team would much rather keep most of them.

The NFL’s trade deadline is about a week and a half away. And for the Miami Dolphins, that means there’s two games to play between now and a final decision on any additional 2026 goodbyes.

Lord knows there’s been plenty of those already. But from here? Miami will need to weigh out the value of potential offers versus the impact that trade pieces could have on the rest of this year’s rebuild. And the young players who are at the center of it. According to NFL insider Albert Breer, the Dolphins are enduring no shortage of calls. They’re just not coming on players that Miami is ready to say goodbye to — with perhaps one exception.

The Miami Dolphins aren’t too keen on shipping out their veterans at the trade deadline

“The Dolphins aren’t hanging up on anyone, but they value their veteran leaders and see them as key to giving their hyper-young roster the right environment to grow. Miami has gotten interest in DT Zach Sieler and C Aaron Brewer, but quickly rebuffed that, and sees those two and Jordyn Brooks as important influences on their raft of rookies. Right tackle Austin Jackson is one name that could realistically draw interest, and potentially be on the move.”

There’s two big assumptions that can be made based on Breer’s intel for the Dolphins. First and foremost, the Dolphins would likely entertain an insane offer for any player on the roster. That’s from what is alluded to by Breer, mentioning that the team isn’t “hanging up on anyone”. As the Million Dollar Man often said, ‘everybody’s got a price!’. But it’s ambitious to expect. Any teams knocking with a price to what the Dolphins would bite on feels like an improbability.

The other assumption is that the Dolphins do not see a long-term future with Jackson. That isn’t to say that Jackson doesn’t finish this season with Miami then sign a discounted new contract. That could work to keep the floor at offensive tackle high if the price is right. But if the Dolphins, who negotiated a pay cut for Jackson this offseason, are willing to hear out the offers at the deadline, he’s probably going to be a casualty to attrition in the offseason.

One assumption you CAN’T make? The Dolphins will be a part of any of this year’s deadline action. The team, while willing to listen, seems to want to keep their veterans to help guide the youth movement. I’m not sure I disagree either — that is of course, barring a ‘Godfather offer’ from a playoff contender.
