The Miami Dolphins have enjoyed better injury fortunes so far this season than they have in recent years. But this is football: a contact sport where bumps, bruises, and ailments are essentially guaranteed.

Miami is starting to collect their fair share of them. But ahead of the team’s Week 3 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s not that injuries have arrived. It’s where they’ve arrived on the roster — seemingly en masse. The Dolphins have an injury bug getting passed around their wide receiver room. But at least one of the team’s rookie targets plans to press on.

The Miami Dolphins’ latest injury report update has the wide receiver room looking shaky—but Chris Bell plans to push through

The wide receiver room was already young. And now it’s banged up. Two receivers did not participate: third-round rookie Caleb Douglas and Ryan Miller, who caught a 77-yard touchdown against the 49ers late while presumably filling in for Douglas. Miller was downgraded from a limited participant to a non-participant from Wednesday to Thursday, too. That trend is…not inspiring.

But fellow rookie receiver Chris Bell is also worth monitoring. Bell was praised for his work in rehab from a torn ACL— returning to action in time for the start of the regular season. But Bell also is now showing up on the injury report: limited with a knee ailment. Bell confirmed that the knee soreness is the surgically repaired knee — but assured the local media he plans to play on Sunday.

Miami will need him. They’ll also potentially need a bigger contribution from their third rookie receiver, Kevin Coleman Jr. Caleb Douglas still has tomorrow to ramp up and get active for his chance to play in Week 3 against Kansas City. But he’s on the clock and hasn’t gotten any work yet this week. That, plus Miller, leaves an unproven room also banged up.

That’s not a great place to be.
