The Minnesota Vikings don’t have starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy at practice on Thursday afternoon. On the surface, it’s a frustrating factor heading into their week 2 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. However, context is always the most important thing when it comes to missing practice

J.J. McCarthy misses practice on Thursday

The reason why McCarthy was set to miss practice isn’t due to injury, but rather because his fiancée is set to have their first child, as he is with her at the hospital.

It’s a wonderful thing for McCarthy and his fiancée to welcome a child into their lives. From a football perspective, it can be viewed as a negative, which anytime you miss practice is from an on-field perspective. However, this isn’t something to worry about. McCarthy will be ready to go on Sunday night.

He will be listed on the injury report on Thursday due to missing practice, but it won’t be due to injury. It’s standard procedure for a player to be listed as not injury-related. He will join a multitude of players on the injury report from Wednesday, and it’s a lengthy one with 12 players.

Congratulations to McCarthy and his fiancée!
