Minnesota Vikings request their first interview for general manager, and he’s right up the alley of Zygi and Mark Wilf
The first candidate interview request isn’t from the Minnesota Vikings organization, but he might as well have been.
The search for the next Minnesota Vikings general manager is on, and we have our first official candidate request. They have asked to speak to Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Terrance Gray, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
It’s the first of many likely candidates that the Vikings will end up interviewing. Even though he’s not from within the organization, Gray might as well be considered as such, as he spent 11 seasons with the Vikings.
Minnesota Vikings request to interview Terrance Gray
Having spent 11 seasons with the Vikings is going to play really well for both Zygi and Mark Wilf, who have shown they don’t want to rock the boat very often. He was with the team as a scout when they had their incredible 2015 NFL Draft class, featuring cornerback Trae Waynes, linebacker Eric Kendricks, edge rusher Danielle Hunter, and wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
I spoke to coaching and executive expert AJ Schulte about Gray, and tehre is a lot to like about him.
Gray should be a familiar name for Vikings fans, as he made his name as a college scout under Rick Spielman and George Paton in Minnesota, with much of his time as the Southeast scout. He’s been a finalist for numerous job openings in recent years after being a hot riser up the ranks with the Bills. Gray is Brandon Beane’s top assistant and plays a role in most of their decision-making, particularly in the draft. Reportedly, Gray was a huge figure in the Bills’ selections of Maxwell Hairston, Dalton Kincaid, O’Cyrus Torrence, and Spencer Brown.

The Bills’ front office has taken its fair share of lumps, but Gray has the scouting background and experience to fill out a strong staff, and he has worked directly with ownership in Buffalo, something that would no doubt appeal to the Wilfs.
Gray is just the first candidate the Vikings are interviewing, but he should be viewed as a very serious one. He also will help fulfill the Rooney Rule, but that’s far from the reason why he’s being interviewed.
