Saints draft Lorenzo Styles on day three of 2026 NFL Draft
The Saints have selected Lorenzo Styles, a safety from Ohio State, with the 172nd pick in this year’s draft. Styles won’t be expected to be a starter for New Orleans, but he can play a role as depth an on special teams for the Saints going forward.
Potential impact for New Orleans from Styles
I discussed Styles’ time with the Buckeyes with Brandon Little, who covers Ohio State.
Both of the Styles brothers now being drafted is what the two had to have dreamed of when Lorenzo transferred back home to play for Ohio State. Out of high school in the Columbus area, Styles originally committed to play for Notre Dame as a wide receiver and he had 684 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns through two seasons with the Fighting Irish.
Style transferred to Ohio State as a cornerback and spent the last three seasons with the Buckeyes to play alongside his brother. In 2023, Styles played in just three games but became a rotational player, as well as special teams in 2024 when he made 16 tackles and four pass breakups during Ohio State’s national championship season.
As a senior, Styles was a starting nickel for the Buckeyes defense the majority of the time, and his athleticism flashed at times, but also but him with over aggressiveness leading to missed tackles. Styles put up a 4.27 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and will always be one of the better athletes on any team. A former track sprinter who will likely find his calling on special teams first in the NFL.
