The Philadelphia Eagles need to do some serious soul-searching after yet another second-half collapse. The offense looked competent early, Saquon Barkley had the run game humming at roughly seven yards a carry, and then everything fell apart. Again. So let’s get right into it, because there are three things I never want to see from this team again this season and beyond.

No more Makai Lemon screen passes on first down

This has to stop. The Eagles consistently put themselves behind the sticks by dialing up a first-down screen pass to rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon that clearly does not work. It kills drives before they even get going. You’re taking the ball out of your playmakers’ hands on the most important down in football, the one that sets up everything else, and you’re wasting it on a play that opposing defenses have completely figured out. It’s maddening to watch, and there is zero reason to keep going back to it.

Get Andy Dalton out of here

I would pay to get rid of Andy Dalton. That is how bad he is. Tanner McKee should have been the backup quarterback, and I have no idea why he wasn’t in the game. Dalton offers nothing at this point. He can’t move, he can’t extend plays, and he can’t push the ball downfield with any consistency. If you need a backup to come in and give you a chance to win, McKee is the guy. Simple as that. The Eagles need to make that switch immediately, because if Jalen Hurts misses time for any reason, Andy Dalton out there is a death sentence for the season.

Fix the offensive line, starting at center

The offensive line is banged up and it showed. Cam Jurgens is struggling badly right now. He allowed another four pressures, and that kind of production from your guard is going to sink you no matter how talented the rest of the roster is. Meanwhile, Drew Kendall pitched a shutout at center. A shutout. So honestly, it might be time to go full-time with Kendall, because he has been that good.

Landon Dickerson may come back in a few weeks, but will he be healthy? Who knows. The Eagles cannot keep holding up playing like this on the offensive line. The first half showed what this team is capable of when the blocking is even halfway decent. Then the second half hit, the line collapsed, and everything went with it.

This team has too much talent to keep beating itself. Cut the gimmick screens, move on from Dalton, and figure out the interior of the offensive line. Those three fixes aren’t optional, they’re necessary if the Eagles want to be taken seriously as contenders the rest of the way.
