Saquon Barkley‘s home was the target of a home invasion over the weekend, according to the Chester County DA. The Philadelphia Eagles running back and his family were not harmed in the incident, which is the best news you can take from an otherwise terrible situation. Multiple vehicles or groups of people were reportedly involved, and when officers arrived at the scene, the suspects had already fled.
A senseless act against a pillar of the community
This one hits different. Saquon Barkley is a guy who has fully embraced Philadelphia, the fan base, and the community since making the switch from New York. He took criticism for that decision, but he answered every doubt by helping the Eagles get over the top and win the Super Bowl. Everything he’s done on the field speaks for itself, but what he’s meant off the field matters just as much. His family is deeply involved in the community, and he has consistently gone out of his way to put in a good word about how passionate Eagles fans are and how much the city means to him.
So whoever did this, shame on you. Whether it’s Barkley or the 53rd guy on the roster or anybody else, these things should never happen. It’s just an unfortunate reality that high-profile athletes have to deal with situations like this.
Nobody was harmed, and that’s ultimately what matters. Hopefully Barkley and his family are doing okay and can move past this as quickly as possible. One person, or one group of people, does not represent an entire fan base. Eagles fans love Saquon, we appreciate everything he’s done for this organization, and that will never change.
