The Philadelphia Eagles just got the kind of news no Eagles fan wanted. Star running back Saquon Barkley pulled up lame on a notable run against the Los Angeles Rams, and the team has now revealed what he’s dealing with.

Barkley came off the field gingerly and tried to work it out on the sideline for a bit. However, he eventually had to head back to the locker room, and Philadelphia followed with an official injury update shortly after.

Update: Saquon Barkley ruled out vs. Rams, per the team.

Barkley made the walk back to the locker room alongside Big Dom, and that walk alone was enough to make the entire fan base hold its breath.

So the immediate question becomes: how serious is it?

The truth is, we don’t know yet. The team’s in-game designation tells us what part of the body is involved and he went from questionable to out against Los Angeles. It doesn’t tell us anything about the exact diagnosis, and that’s the piece of information everyone in Philadelphia is waiting on.

The training staff got a good look at him in the locker room, and obviously they didn’t feel comfortable with what they saw, ruling him out before halftime.

Saquon Barkley 2026 stats

  • 174 rushing yards
  • 6 receiving yards
  • 0 total TDs

Why this matters so much for Philadelphia

There is no question that Barkley is one of the most important players on this roster. He’s the engine of the Eagles’ offense, and any stretch of this game against the Rams without him changes the complexion of how Philly can attack.

It’s one thing when a depth player tweaks something. It’s another when the face of your rushing attack has to leave the field and head to the locker room in the middle of a game and doesn’t return. The Eagles will have to lean on the rest of the backfield to finish the job against Los Angeles.

What comes next for Barkley and the Eagles

The bottom line is, Philadelphia now has to wait on the exact diagnosis. The scene on the sideline and the walk to the locker room didn’t exactly inspire confidence, nor did him being ruled out before halftime.

Right now, a lot of Eagles fans are waiting with bated breath. The next update from the team will go a long way in determining how worried everyone should be.
